You may be running your own one-woman-man-and-a-dog band or heading up the UK arm of a global enterprise or part of a team anywhere in the huge range of companies working in our industry.

We are in all business and fortunately it is the beauty business. Fortunately, because it is surviving the financial storms so well but the underlying pressure of uncertainty is a common thread we all share.

Our view is to keep pushing ahead; keep one eye on the financial weather but keep the focus facing forwards and the result has been an increase in business. Read the rest of this entry »

Are beauty brands slow to develop social media stategies?

An interesting post on WARC discusses how US beauty brands have been slow to develop social media strategies.

Interesting because it is our experience that the scales, that have thus far been weighted in favour of the more traditional marketing platforms (print for instance) are beginning to shift towards online.

The UK beauty business is rising to the challenge and the opportunity that social media presents, and whilst at the moment the movement is perhaps hesitant, it is starting to move into the right direction.

 


A Sea Change

As I have previously said, there is a massive sea change underway. It used to be the media that influenced opinion, now it is the social networks. The consumer chatter that is driving opinion and the bloggers are a direct link into this phenomenon and I thought I would take a moment to elaborate on my thinking.

My First Blog Post

This is my first blog post and whilst to me my everyday working life is adrenalin filled (well most days) I am extremely conscious that you may view it somewhat differently. Bear with me…

The big chat right now is of course social media. My sympathy goes out to the hard pressed PR teams who are getting another layer of work and responsibility piled on their desks.  We know from helping comms and marketing teams to get the best out of our print media insight service (mymarketmonitor.com print) that the commitment is there but they need help. Perhaps hand-holding is too condescending a term but they do need support. It’s the same when getting to grips with social media.
